Cranberries grow naturally in acidic swamps filled with peat moss in humid forests. Cranberries contain water (88%), organic acids, fructose, vitamin C (high level, i.e., 200 mg/kg of fresh berries), flavonoids (Flavonoids are a group of natural substances with variable structures and are found in fruits, vegetables, grains, bark, roots, stems, flowers, tea and wine. These natural products are known for their beneficial effects on health. anthocyanins (Anthocyanins are a group of antioxidants found in red, blue and purple fruits and vegetables. A diet rich in these compounds may prevent inflammation and protect against type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease) and catechins (a substance found in tea that helps protect cells from damage caused by free radicals) Cranberries work primarily by preventing the adhesion of E. coli to the urothelium (the epithelium lining the surface of the bladder, a unique cell type with high plasticity and a variety of cellular functions). The urothelium represents the first line of defense of the bladder and an interface between pathogens and defense mechanisms; without adhesion, bacteria cannot infect the mucosal surface.

D-Mannose: D-mannose is a sugar that has an important role in human metabolism. The presumed mechanism of action is to prevent bacterial adhesion to the uroepithelial cell (the uroepithelium is an epithelial tissue that lines part of the urinary tract, including the renal pelvis, ureters, bladder, upper urethra, and prostate).

D-mannose binds to bacteria and prevents their adhesion to uroepithelial cells, and a reduction in bacteriuria levels has been confirmed. Simply D-mannose is a monosaccharide that can be rapidly absorbed and excreted by the urinary tract.

Potassium Magnesium Citrate: It acts as a urinary alkaliser. It lowers the acidic urine pH and provides an alkaline loading effect.
Both cranberry and D-mannose enable flushing out bacteria from the urinary tract that cause infection. They work by preventing bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder and ureter. Potassium magnesium citrate makes the urine less acidic thereby reducing the burning or irritation while urinating.
